Degarrotype photo

Degarrotype photo, circa 1860

One of my pioneers had this taken and brought
it across the plains. I found it in the garage
hiding in an old
trunk full of photos. I think it may be my
third great grandfather William W. Meguire
from Pennsylvania who settled in
Plain City, Utah.

You are so lucky to have these photos Ruth. I would love to know what my great grandparents (and great great etc) looked like. Do I take after anyone in particular is one question that I ask myself?

Ruth, that is wonderful! I know I had once seen a huge oval photograph of my GGG grandfather who fought in the Civil War, but no idea as to where it ended up.

A treasure, for sure. That's something truly vintage to keep for future generations to share.

Oh to have a trunk found in the garage. with such a treasure. Maybe we have to get close to 'vintage' age to really appreciate a photo from the Civil War Era. needs to be put behind glass and preserved along with the name you think it represents. a real family treasure - worth more than all our diamond rings.
